چکیده

We determine theoretically the relation between the total number of protons Np and the mass number A (the charge to mass ratio) of nuclei and neutron cores with the model recently proposed by Ruffini et al. (2007) and we compare it with other Np versus A relations: the empirical one, related to the Periodic Table, and the semi-empirical relation, obtained by minimizing the Weizsäcker mass formula. We find that there is a very good agreement between all the relations for values of A typical of nuclei, with differences of the order of per cent. Our relation and the semi-empirical one are in agreement up to A ∼ 10; for higher values, we find that the two relations differ. We interprete the different behaviour of our theoretical relation as a result of the penetration of electrons (initially confined in an external shell) inside the core, that becomes more and more important by increasing A; these effects are not taken into account in the semi-empirical mass-formula.

Comparison of (Th-233U) O2 and (Th-235U) O2 fuel burn up into a thermal research reactor using MCNPX 2.6 code

Background: Decrease of economically accessible uranium resources motivates consideration of breeding of fertile elements such as thorium. Material and Method: Thorium oxide fuel burn up calculation of a simulated research reactor cooled heavy water has been proposed in the present work using MCNPX 2.6 code. Two 233U and 235U isotopes have been used as fissile element of thorium oxide fuel. 135...

بررسی چگالی ترازهای انرژی هسته‌های اگزوتیک

Nuclear level density (NLD) is one of the properties of nuclei with widespread applications in astrophysics and nuclear medicine. Since there has been little experimental and theoretical research on the study of nuclei which are far from stability line, studying NLD for these nuclei is of crucial importance. Also, as NLD is an important input for nuclear research codes, hence studying the metho...

β-decay half-lives of heavy neutron-rich nuclei in the N≈126 region

The astrophysical r-process is responsible for the synthesis of approximately half of the heavy nuclei in the Universe. One of the main problems we have to overcome to fully understand the observed r-process abundances is the lack of information on the nuclei participating in this process, in particular for the heaviest ones. The production of heavy neutron-rich nuclei in the laboratory has bee...

From Microscales to Macroscales in 3D: Selfconsistent Equation of State for Supernova and Neutron Star Models

First results from a fully self-consistent, temperature-dependent equation of state that spans the whole density range of neutron stars and supernova cores are presented. The equation of state (EoS) is calculated using a mean-field Hartree-Fock method in three dimensions (3D). The nuclear interaction is represented by the phenomenological Skyrmemodel in this work, but the EoS can be obtained in...

Iterated and irreducible pion-photon exchange in nuclei

We calculate the contribution to the nuclear energy density functional which arises from iterated pion-photon exchange between nucleons. In heavy nuclei, this novel charge symmetry breaking interaction leads to an additional binding of each proton by about 0.2 MeV. Compared to that the analogous effect from irreducible pion-photon exchange is negligibly small. As a possible mechanism to resolve...
